About this tool

Numbers typed on an Arabic phone or copied from an Arabic document often use Arabic-Indic digits, which spreadsheets, databases and forms fail to recognise as numbers. This converter handles all three digit sets — Western, Arabic-Indic and the Persian variant that is easily confused with it — plus the Arabic decimal comma and thousands separator.

How to use

Frequently asked questions

Why does my spreadsheet not treat Arabic digits as numbers?

Arabic-Indic digits are different Unicode characters from 0-9, so most software sees them as text. Converting them to Western digits makes sums, sorting and validation work again.

What is the difference between Arabic-Indic and Persian digits?

They look almost identical, but 4, 5 and 6 are drawn differently and they are separate Unicode characters. Text from Iran, Afghanistan or Pakistan often uses the Persian set, which breaks search and matching if not converted.

Does it change anything other than digits?

Only the digits, and optionally the Arabic decimal and thousands separators. Letters, spaces and punctuation stay exactly as they are.
