About this tool

A Hijri age is not a Gregorian age multiplied by a constant. The Hijri year is about eleven days shorter, so the gap widens with age until it reaches whole years. This tool computes both using the same official Umm al-Qura calendar that government systems rely on, rather than an approximation that drifts by a day or two.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the birth date, or the start date, in the "from" field.
  2. 2Leave the "to" field on today to get an age, or change it to measure a gap between two dates.
  3. 3Read the result in years, months and days in both calendars.
  4. 4Copy what you need: the Hijri start date, the total days, or the days to the next anniversary.

When you need it

  • Finding your Hijri age for a government form or a job application.
  • Counting the days between two dates for a contract, warranty or leave period.
  • Finding the Hijri date that matches your birthday.
  • Counting down to an appointment or an anniversary.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out my age in the Hijri calendar?

Enter your Gregorian birth date and leave the second date on today. The result appears in both calendars. Do not multiply your Gregorian age by a fixed number — the difference depends on where your birthday falls in the Hijri year.

Why do my Hijri and Gregorian ages differ by years?

A Hijri year is about 354 days against 365 for a Gregorian one, a gap of eleven days a year. That accumulates into a full year roughly every 33 years, so someone who is 33 by the Gregorian calendar is about 34 by the Hijri one.

Which Hijri calendar does this use?

Umm al-Qura, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia and the one used by its banks and government systems. It can differ by a day or two from other calculated Hijri calendars.

How many days are there between two dates?

Enter both dates and you get the total in days and in weeks. Leap days are counted properly rather than approximated by dividing by 365.
