About this tool

Contracts, government forms and official letters across the Gulf still use Hijri dates, while most software only speaks Gregorian. This converter works in both directions using the Umm al-Qura calendar — the official calendar of Saudi Arabia and the one banks and government systems rely on — instead of an approximate formula that can be off by a day or two.

What is the Umm al-Qura calendar?

It is the astronomical Hijri calendar adopted officially by Saudi Arabia. Unlike sighting-based calendars, its dates are calculated in advance, which is why systems and institutions use it.

Why might a date differ by one day from what was announced?

Religious occasions such as the start of Ramadan are often set by moon sighting, which can differ from the calculated calendar by a day. For official and administrative dates, Umm al-Qura is the reference.

How long is a Hijri month?

Either 29 or 30 days, and it changes from year to year. The tool shows the exact length of the month for the date you convert.
