About this tool
A strong password is long and truly random — not a clever word with a number on the end. This generator uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source security software relies on, and shows the strength as bits of entropy rather than a vague colour bar. The passwords are created on your device and never leave it.
How to use
- 1Set the length with the slider — 16 characters or more is a good default.
- 2Choose which character sets to include: lowercase, uppercase, digits and symbols.
- 3Keep "No look-alike characters" on if you will ever type the password by hand.
- 4Copy the password you want, or press Generate again for a fresh set.

Frequently asked questions
What does "bits of entropy" mean?
It measures how many guesses an attacker would need. Each extra bit doubles the work. Around 80 bits is strong for most accounts; 128 bits is beyond any realistic brute-force attack.
Is it safe to generate passwords on a website?
Only if the site never sees them. Here the password is created by JavaScript running on your device, with no network request. You can load the page, go offline, and it still works.
Why avoid look-alike characters?
Characters like I, l, 1, O and 0 are easy to confuse when reading a password off a screen or paper. Removing them costs very little strength and prevents typing mistakes.
